Character Information Name: Holly Elizabeth Douglass Birthdate: Age: 18 Location: Chicago Occupation: Student.
Fairy-Tale Character: Venus (Roman Mythology) Abilities: Stirring up feelings and emotions in others, no matter what they may be -- love, jealousy, anger, hate ; she can cause that emotion to come to light in a person. She can also sense attraction between people. Link to source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_%28mythology%29
Personality: Holly Douglass has a tendency to be fiercely independent and refuses to rely on the charity of others to get her anywhere in life. Taking a scholarship to go to some ritzy private school was enough of a blow to her ego, but it was one that she could handle. Anything else? No thanks. She'd much rather work for what she wants and feel as if she'd earn it than rely on the pity from others. Her entire life has been spent working hard towards her goals and she'll be damned if she starts to take the easy way out now. Maybe eventually, when she has the ability to take that time off and be a bit more relaxed, but for now? No thank you.
Surprisingly, she's rather laidback and relaxed, at least for the most part. The sort of person who's easy to talk to and be open with without a fear of being judged or ridiculed. She's perfectly pleasant to anyone who's pleasant to her and simply grits her teeth and bears it when it comes to... oh, the majority of her snobtastic classmates? She tends to simply raise her brow at them and their spoiled antics, though she tries to refrain from saying anything or making comments. She's never been the least bit shamed of herself or her background, but keeps her mouth shut for her brother's sake.
She has a tendency to be a very forgiving person as well. At least to a person's face, anyway. She tries not to hold serious grudges or anything like that and much prefers to move on and past things rather than sit and dwell and be broody and angry. Life's too short for that, after all, and while she's a dedicated and hardworker, she'd much rather have fun with her life and enjoy it than be miserable by taking everything too seriously. She tries her hardest to be openminded and see multiple sides to every situation and not close off people or get angry too quickly.
Being born between her two brothers and being the oldest girl has put her into an interesting position as well. Since both Ethan and Charlie are both athletes, though in completely different ways, she's a bit of a tomboy and a little more rough and tumble than most girls. Still, she has the appearance of being a girl (thanks to her sisters, no doubt), but she's definitely more 'one of the boys'. Holly's also fiercely protective over her siblings and probably has regular heart attacks over them.
Unfortunately, all the hardwork and dedication in the world can't control her slightly flighty and impulsive nature. If she wants to do something, she's very likely to do just that, good or bad. It's gotten her in and out of relationships, into minor bouts of trouble, and probably will continue to do so in the future, but she doesn't mind. It keeps life interesting and people on their toes, right? She, however, refuses to drama or be involved with petty antics of her classmates. She doesn't think herself to be above it, no... just that it's stupid and not worth the time of day. Orientation: Heterosexual.
Appearance: In a school like LPA where looks and money are everything... well, Holly's lucky to have one of those qualities. She's naturally very pretty, though not in the remotely normal way for people that she knows.
She's a bit on the shorter side, standing at 5'6" tall at the very most, with a slim frame. Like her brother, her hair's naturally curly and poofy, though she does a lot more to control it than he does, even straightening it from time to time to do something different. She has tanned skin and, oddly enough, blue eyes (genetic weirdo much?). Her sense of fashion tends to lean towards being street-savvy thrown in with the slightest bit of 'scene', though not by much. History: Holly Douglass wasn't quite born into the 'ideal' lifestytle or neighborhood. The second oldest of five children, she grew up in a rather tough Chicago neighborhood, so between that and being smack dab between the two boys, she learned quickly how to take care of and fend for herself. It wasn't that their situation was desperate or that they had bad parenting, no. It was just that she had to learn those things to be able to make it. Even with the sheltering and overprotective nature of her big brother, she's grown to be fiercely independent and absolutely refuses to rely on anyone or anything else to get what she wants in her life. She's become driven and ambitious as all hell and is determined to make a better life for herself one day.
While she's definitely a tomboy and more along the lines of being 'one of the boys', Holly's not all that into sports. Is she good at them? Most of the time! She tends to pick them up with a fair amount of ease, though that's not where her passion really is. No, her passion's much more along the lines of music and dance. So much so, that when she was younger, she'd sneak into churches and music shops to play the instruments, teaching herself how to play them, starting with the piano. She was young when she started, though she would spend hours upon hours practicing and perfecting the art and getting better with time. Dance was something she picked up on her own from watching television and just being... well, ridiculous.
Eventually, her older brother earned himself a scholarship into a private school for football. She wasn't surprised by the scholarship itself, since Charlie'd always been amazing at sports, but she was a little bit surprised at his school choice. Then again? Why go to a crap school when you had a chance at something amazing? That in mind, she auditioned for the school and earned herself a scholarship via the music program.
School's been a mixed bag for her. On the one hand, she's a pretty girl who socializes easily, so that's easy enough for her. On the other, she can't remotely relate to the lifestyles her classmates have and she couldn't exactly share stories of her childhood, which weren't a pinch as glamorous or extravagant as the rest of theirs. Still, she puts herself out there and manages to avoid that particular topic and focuses on... well, anything else. Character Journal: yourdesire Sample Journal Entry:
